Information update concerning the Sisters of Providence Healing Violence Committee

The original committee was called Healing Violence Against Women. Our mandate to provide a major conference every two years over a period of ten years has been copmleted. These conferences, and the smaller workshops we arranged, were well attended.

Awareness of violence against women and children was raised, as well as attitudes and actions taken to promote prevention and healing.

Part of our mandate was also to provide a bursary fund for women needing counseling and/or education in the field.

In 2008 the committee members took part in a retreat to discern whether to continue as we have been or to adapt a new mandate. It was decided to shorten the name of our committee to “The Healing Violence Committee”. We move to concrete actions to eradicate violence, especially againste women and children. Through networking with Providence Spirituality Centre we aim to raise awareness, to change attitudes and to take action to promote healing at three levels: personal, congregational, and societal, through education, networking and through bursaries. We continue our ongoing committment to our corporate stance against Human Trafficking.
