How is the public school doing in Lima’s poor sectors during the pandemic?
The first thing we faced, with both teachers and students, was to start learning/teaching through WhatsApp. This was because most teachers and students did not 1) have access to an Internet connection with the necessary speed or 2) have a computer that could respond to the Zoom or Meet applications.

Missionary Returns to Canada
In 1967 when the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul were opening missions in Guatemala and Peru, Sister Rose-Marie Bokenfohr, a registered nurse, was among the first group of Sisters to volunteer for mission work.

Visit Highlights Education
From November 27 to December 13, 2019 Sister Gayle Desarmia and Associate Wen Bogues travelled to Peru to visit the Sisters and Associates in Carabayllo. A highlight of the visit was the opportunity to see several Peruvian Associates in their place of work and witness their ministry.

Visiting Peru – A Gift
The signs, sounds and smells of Carabayllo and other areas were very familiar to me. If I closed my eyes, it was as if I were back in mission in Malawi. There are a lot of similarities but there are also a lot of differences.

Celebrating 50 Years of Ministry
From December 6-21, 2017 Sisters Sandra Shannon, Gayle Desarmia and Josephine Doiron travelled to Peru to visit the Sisters of Providence and Providence Associates and to be present for the 50th anniversary celebrations.

A Privileged Visit to Peru
From November 23 until December 8, 2016 Sisters Gayle Desarmia and Diane Brennen travelled to Peru to visit the Sisters of Providence and Providence Associates in Carabayllo and more specifically in El Progresso.

Reflection on a Visit to Peru
Today the scriptures speak of a banquet, of sharing of food, and of healing, and I am reminded of a day in Peru when our Sisters and Associates celebrated the feast of St. Vincent de Paul by doing what Vincent would do, serving the poor.

A Pocket of Providence in Peru
Founded in 1978, the Marillac Mission Fund supports the mission work of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul. Sisters Rose-Marie Bokenfohr and Sara Jiménez live in El Progresso and administer the fund.
