Most Rev. Brendan O'Brien, Archbishop of Kingston
During Advent, we affirm that Christ has come, that he is present in our world today, and that he will come again in power. The parable of the bridesmaids who anxiously await the coming of the Bridegroom (Mt 25:1-13) expresses well the joy we feel at Christ’s coming, as well as our need for preparation.

Advent Guided Retreat Weekend:

Each Advent holds the promise that the Jesus, born so long ago, may be born again in all those who long for him. At this retreat we will ask ourselves: How do we keep the hope of Christmas alive year after year in a world notorious for dashing all hopes? Come to us Lord Jesus, to all those who lift their face to yours and who long for you, especially those who no longer feel your presence and have forgotten your name.

Fr. Michael Busch was ordained to ministry in May of 1991. He has served as associate pastor and pastor in a number of parishes. In 2006 he was appointed as Rector of St. Michael’s Cathedral, Toronto. He has participated in many retreats and days of reflection for principals, teachers, parishes and others both in Toronto and within other Canadian dioceses.

Weekend Guided Retreat: Near Occasions of Grace
“We Now Interrupt Your Regular Programming”

Fri Feb 4, 4 PM - Sun Feb 6, 1 PM
Register by Fri Jan 21 * $165

Rev. Philip Chircop, sj
If every Christian knows that there are Near Occasions of Sin, why not Near Occasions of Grace? During this retreat we will turn our prayerful attention to some forgotten pleasures and delights such as the pleasure of being sensual, the pleasure of being foolish, the pleasure of not knowing, the pleasure of imperfection, the pleasure of doing nothing useful, the pleasure of ordinariness, the pleasure of returning or coming home ... Such pleasures are, I suggest, beyond our regular programming! We were never told that such delights are potential points of entry into the mystery of love and the fullness of life.

Philip Chircop is a Jesuit priest born on the Mediterranean Island of Malta. He has advanced degrees in Pastoral Theology, Communications and Spirituality. He has worked in high school, university and parish settings. More recently he has been mainly involved in retreat work and spiritual direction.

By living sustainably and simply in a balanced relationship with all Creation, we witness to others our respect for the Earth and Life in all its diversity. Come and learn more about this great work.

Cate Henderson is the Gardener and Seed Saver for the Sisters of Providence. She has spent well over a decade attending horticulture college, taking supplementary studies and working in the fields of permaculture, biodynamic agriculture and organic gardening. Ecology means home-coming, weaving our stories. Where does the natural world fit in our spiritual journeys? Today it is our sense of ‘cosmic homelessness’ that often alienates us, not just from life around us, but also from our true inner selves. We need to find ways of coming home to this sacred community to which we all belong.
